The Gerry Holmes Memorial Award is presented each year to a Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze Committee member who has made an outstanding contribution to this rodeo weekend. This year’s recipient is Lindsay White.
Lindsay has been associated with this event for the last 9 years. He began his involvement as a videographer for the local television access channel, filming the rodeo itself plus all of the other weekend activities. He continues to film other events during the festival weekend. As well as doing the actual filming,he spends countless hours editing and preparing the final product for release on the local access channel.
For the last 5 years Lindsay has held the position of secretary for the Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze. Lindsay records the minutes of the monthly meetings with significant thoroughness and attention to detail.
Lindsay has undertaken the task of submitting the yearly application for the Manitoba Government Community Festival Grants. His thoroughness in this application has resulted in it being viewed in a positive light by the granting committee even in these times of tighten government budgets.
Possibly one of Lindsay’s greatest contributions would be in the filling of the yearend report for the afformentional grant. Each year his efforts in this regard results in a document that is a complete record of our activities, challenges and successes. It will serve as a history of events and will certainly be beneficial in years to come.
In 2015 the Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze was awarded the West man Tourisms Event of the Year. Lindsay was one of the leads in the application for this award. Again his dedication, thoroughness, and attention to detail played a large part in the success of that application.
Congratulation Lindsay on being chosen as this year’s recipient of the Gerry Holmes Memorial Award for your outstanding contribution to the Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze.
