The Virden Wild West Daze Committee is honouring the memory of an outstanding volunteer, Gerry Holmes.
In 1995 Gerry joined this organization and remained a member for 11 years.
For six of those years Gerry was the overall weekend president and the
remaining years she was a valued chairperson. She was called upon many
times by fellow committee members for her opinion and advice, due to her
in-depth knowledge of the weekend. Gerry was extremely dedicated and committed to
the Wild West Daze weekend, not only for the benefit of our community, but
also to promote a sport she dearly loved. In her final days, Gerry’s love for the Wild
West Day weekend was still clear. She attended the 2006 final pre-event
meeting to help ensure that all preparations were in place for the event.
Gerry was also able to attend the Friday evening Rodeo and found a moment
to visit with friends and fellow committee members. Gerry will always be remembered by our
organization, not only for her years of work and dedication toward this
event, but also for just being "Gerry". |
