Horseman's Hall of Fame
DON GEE

Don Gee, of Virden was inducted into the Horseman Hall of Fame at the Saturday rodeo performance.

As a youngster, Gee rode horseback the 2.5 miles to school.  He spent much time helping his father on the family farm, often driving the horses.

Later he drove a stook team during threshing time.

"He loved the jobs that involved horses rather than the tractor," wrote Marge, wife of Don Gee.

She showed a percheron mare and colt in the Virden Fair in 1959 and in 1962 showed a team of Belgian mares.

In 1975, Gee got into the PMU industry, but he continued showing his Belgians around the country including the Toronto Royal Winter Fair in 1980.  In 1991, he pulled, with six horses, the Brandon Exhibition Wagon in the Grey Cup Parade in Winnipeg.

In 1966, Gee placed second in the North American Belgian Show in the six-horse hitch Driving Competition.

Over the years, Gee, Who still lives on the farm, has continued to show horses; he still cuts up his own hay, winters horses and "keeps some colts over."
