Brown was a steer wrestler, and calf roper, but team roping was his specialty. "This was Casey's event and he did a bunch of winning," says rodeo organizer Dr. Everett More. "He started at such a very early age, he became very good," his father Lyle recalls. Mike Pernowski, a dentist from Dauphin, was Casey's partner for many years. In the late 80's, Brown won a saddle in one of his first roping events. His biggest money win came when he won the Live Wire Roping event just before his tragic accident. It was an impromptu team up wiht roper Tim Edwards, who needed a partner for the event. At the Virden indoor Rodeo, to take home the purse and have your name on the plaque, the time to beat is 4.6 seconds, a record set in 2007 by Casey Brown's brothers Shane and Lonnie Brown. If not won, this purse will grow in size until the record is broken. |
